2026 Lamar Hunt LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT Award

Legends gala

Established in 2006, the Lamar Hunt Lifetime Achievement Award is the Texas Sports Hall of Fame’s most prestigious honor. Named for legendary sports visionary Lamar Hunt, the award recognizes individuals whose lifelong leadership, innovation and service have transformed sports in Texas and beyond. Recipients leave a lasting legacy through their impact on athletes, organizations and communities while inspiring future generations through excellence both on and off the field.

About the gala

Unlike traditional annual honors, the Lamar Hunt Award is presented only when a truly deserving recipient is selected. This rare distinction reflects the significance and exclusivity of the award, making each gala a memorable celebration of an extraordinary legacy.

Each Legends Gala is uniquely tailored to the honoree and hosted in a meaningful location connected to their story and impact. In 2026, legendary Texas A&M coach and administrator R.C. Slocum will be honored at Kyle Field’s Ford Hall of Champions in College Station — an iconic setting befitting one of the most respected figures in Texas sports history.

Guests are invited to enjoy an elegant evening featuring a catered dining experience, premium beverages, and memorable tributes celebrating the recipient’s achievements and influence. Attire for the evening is Sunday best.

Beyond honoring greatness, the gala also supports the mission of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Proceeds from the event help preserve and promote Texas sports history through museum exhibits, educational initiatives and ongoing Hall of Fame efforts that inspire future generations.

The Lamar Hunt Award Legends Gala is more than an event — it is a tribute to legacy, character and the enduring spirit of Texas sports.

R.C. SLOCUM

Slocum recently completed his 53rd year representing Texas A&M, and remains the winningest football coach in school history with a 123-47-2 record from 1989-2002. Under his leadership, the Aggies never posted a losing season, captured four conference championships and had a record 29 straight Southwest Conference victories over four years.

Beyond coaching, Slocum served twice as Texas A&M’s interim athletic director and currently serves as special assistant to the university president. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2012 and received the prestigious Amos Alonzo Stagg Award from the American Football Coaches Association in 2014.

Slocum is the first Aggie to win the Lamar Hunt Lifetime Achievement Award and the first recipient of the award since the Lamar Hunt family in 2019.
