Todd Dodge began his football journey as a prolific passer at Port Arthur’s Thomas Jefferson High School. He was a Parade All-America quarterback and earned honors as the state’s top player in 1980. Dodge threw for 3,135 yards as a senior, becoming the first Texas schoolboy to break the 3,000 mark. He led the Yellow Jackets to a 14-0 record and a trip to the 5A state championship game. Dodge compiled 5,642 career passing yards, made the 1980 all-state team, and played in the 1981 THSCA All-Star Game. At the University of Texas,he passed for 2,791 yards,18 touchdowns and was a member of teams that won two SWC titles and made back-to-back Cotton Bowl appearances in 1983 & 1984. Dodge began a 24-year high school coaching career in 1991 finding his most success at Southlake Carroll (2000-2006) and Austin Westlake (2014-2021). At Southlake Carroll, he captured four state championships in five years (2002, 2004, 2005, 2006) and had an overall record of 98-11. In 2014 he moved to Austin Westlake and quickly reestablished the program as a powerhouse, leading the Chaparrals to three consecutive state championships (2019, 2020, 2021). Dodge has a total of seven state championships and won four national coach of the year awards. He is the first Texas high school football coach to win three-straight championships with two different schools and currently has a career record of 243-76-0.
He has coached and mentored some of the top quarterbacks in Texas history, including Chase Daniel, Greg McElroy, and Sam Ehlinger. Dodge came out of retirement in 2024 to lead the football program at Lovejoy High School in Lucas, Texas. He was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2025.
