Jamaal Charles

Jamaal Charles was widely regarded as one of the most electrifying and dynamic running backs to ever play in the NFL. Born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas he was a star at Memorial High School and was named District 22-5A Player of the Year during both his junior and senior seasons. During his collegiate career at the University of Texas, he distinguished himself as one of the most versatile and explosive running backs in the nation, earning numerous accolades and leaving an indelible mark on the program’s storied history. Most notably, Charles played on 10-win teams, including the Longhorns’ 2005 National Championship team, was a three time All-Big 12 selection and Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year. He ended up ranking fifth all-time in single-season rushing touchdowns (18), fifth career rushing touchdowns (36), and fourth in career rushing yards (3,328). Charles also competed with the UT Track and Field team as a sprinter for two seasons collecting four All-American honors and winning the 100-meter dash at the 2006 Big 12 Outdoor Championships. In the 2008 NFL Draft, Charles was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round. After a successful and explosive rookie year Charles was recognized as one of the most dominant running backs in the NFL. He was a true dual-threat weapon amassing a remarkable 7,563 career rushing yards and 44 touchdowns. Charles earned four Pro Bowl selections before retiring as the Chiefs’ all-time leader with 7,260 rushing yards. He was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2024.
