TSHOF inductee Andrew "Rube" Foster will be honored in his hometown of Calvert, TX this Saturday on September 17, 2011. The new Texas Historical Commission marker will be dedicated at 10:30am in Payne-Kemp Park. Refreshments will be available from 11:00am - 1:00pm. Foster was a renowed pitcher in the Negro Leagues and was a founder of the Negro National League in 1920. His half brother Bill is also from Calvert and a member of the Texas Sports HOF.
Local artist, Angela Greene, has donated an original watercolor to commemorate the event. It will be auctioned online at rubefoster.info.
