TEXAS SPORTS HALL OF FAME
SPORT READING CLUB
LITERACY
The Sports Reading Club (SRC) is a unique incentive program designed by the Texas Sports Hall of Fame to encourage elementary through high school students to read. The SRC booklist features Texas athletes and professional teams based in Texas. This program uses a specific interest (sports) to help students, who may not have been otherwise motivated, set reading goals.
The SRC book list focuses on Texas’ regional sports heritage. For example, while most school libraries have books on baseball great Babe Ruth, we believe that it is also important that students in Texas learn that Andrew “Rube” Foster, the founder of the Negro National League, was born in Calvert, Texas. Students who read five books during the school year will earn membership into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame Sports Reading Club. Their membership includes a free admission to the museum, a congratulatory certificate, and their name listed on the Texas Sports Hall of Fame website. Click here to see certificate!

ACCELERATED READER COMPATIBLE
The SRC books and discs can be used in conjunction with the school’s Accelerated Reader (AR) Program. AR is the world’s most popular reading management software, currently being used in over 60,000 schools. This multi-formatted literacy concept will provide a ten question AR test for each book or disc. Some of the titles will be available on disc. Two discs will be donated to each organization or school library.

GIFT
Your SRC sponsorship can be used for an organization, public library, or school (elementary 4-5th grade), (junior high 6-8th grade) or (high school 9-12th grade). Your sponsorship can also be applied to a specific grade level or classroom. The sponsorship will fund the purchase of 20 books (18 hardcover, 2 on disc), book plates, promotional posters and administrative costs associated with the SRC program. The SRC program is designed to operate at the organization, library or school long after your initial literacy investment has been made. If you would like to sponsor an SRC program contact Jay Black at 800-567-9561.

RECOGNITION
Your name or company logo will be printed on a special bookplate or label and placed on each book and disc. As an SRC sponsor you will be included on the TSHOF website and recognized at the annual induction banquet. You will receive a TSHOF Sports Reading Club certificate recognizing you or your company as an official Sponsor.
FIELD TRIP
We encourage schools to plan a field trip to the museum so students can see actual objects and video of the athletes they read about during the year. The admission cost is $2 per student. Teachers are free. Field trips usually last about an hour and start with a short video in the Tom Landry Theater. The video was produced by NFL Films and covers Coach Landry’s career as well as some of the things that made him such a great role model – his honesty, integrity and commitment to family.
After the video students form teams and work together on a scavenger hunt throughout the museum’s exhibits. Please schedule your field trip in advance by calling Jay Black at 800-567-9561.
