This year, Carroll Dawson will be given the Jerry Colangelo award and his name will be among many like Rich DeVos, Don Carter, Del Harris and Pat Williams, all previous recipients. Dawson will be receiving the award at the 2013 All-Star Breakfast in Houston this February during the NBA All-Star Weekend.
The Jerry Colangelo Award recognizes a member of the NBA community for their character, leadership and faith on the court, in their home and in their community. This award is named in honor of Jerry Colangelo, former CEO of the Phoenix Suns, Chairman of USA Basketball, elect of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004 and All-Big Ten performer in 1961 and 1962. It is presented at the All-Star Breakfast.
Dawson is a former Baylor University assistant and head basketball coach, former Houston Rockets’ assistant coach and general manager, and is the current president of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame Board of Trustees. He was inducted into the Paris Junior College Hall of Fame in 1991, Baylor University Hall of Fame in 1998 and Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2001. His long time commitment to basketball, his faith and his community were a few of the qualities he has that led him to be the recipient of this award.
